Strategy
The accessible community, vibrant and innovative for you and me, every day!
We are addressing all rural stakeholders who want to create broad benefits and innovative development through the Leader method.
Leader Bohuslän's development strategy
The development area follows the municipal boundaries and extends from Stromstad in the north to Kungalv and Öckerö in the south but also includes southern archipelago, part of Gothenburg Municipality.
The strategy for Leader Bohuslän has been developed through workshops where representatives from all three sectors participated in order to define challenges and opportunities in the local development area with a perspective on the current situation and an eye on the future. The workshop material has been processed by a writing group that has summarized three goals for the strategy:
- Goal 1 – Transition to sustainable, attractive life and work
- Goal 2 – Local and resilient food production
- Goal 3 – World-class experiences
The development strategy is a steering document for Leader Bohuslän. It formulates how we will work, our goals and areas of focus, who is affected and what must be fulfilled to generate project funds, what the organization will look like and how the program will be evaluated. Leader Bohuslän is a merger of two Leader areas: Leader Bohuskust och Gränsbygd and Leader Södra Bohuslän.
Short version of the strategy
Focus area 1
Conversion
The first focus area is designed to achieve Goal 1: Transition to sustainable, attractive life and work. This area is about initiatives that support sustainable local community development, social participation, inclusion and integration via associations, collaboration and networks, as well as creating, supporting and communicating structures, models, strategies and examples for; transition, local influence, recycling, work, sharing, digitalization and housing.

What does it mean? restructuring?
It can be about uniting people around the development of sustainable structures, lifestyles and habits, as our greatest challenge in modern times is to transition to a more sustainable society. New opportunities have been opened for the digital transformation in rural areas as the pandemic forced many to change.
We see great potential in rural areas being able to go ahead of the city in creating initiatives that can show good examples. To develop joint solutions through, for example, local commitment to circularity and recycling, models for co-use and co-ownership and a focus on young people; by involving them in community life and opening up more accommodation to the target group.
Sustainable innovation and joint local initiatives can be keys to change.
focus area 2
Food production
The second focus area is created to achieve Goal 2: Local and resilient food production. The area focuses on efforts to develop products, innovations and companies within sustainable blue and green industries, logistics and processing, which can lead to more jobs. The focus is on local and locally produced food based on food security, collaboration and reduced climate impact.

What does it mean? food production?
The fact that new trends are born from periods of new needs, such as the emergence of digital transformation through the pandemic, has created the need for increased availability of locally produced food. There is a strong connection to the concept of resilience, which in Leader Bohuslän's development strategy is used as a force to manage change, resist and continue to develop.
From the current programming period, many innovative initiatives have been made where the projects can act as examples of how Leader, through collaboration and partnership, is a multi-faceted tool. For example, Leader projects in aquaculture are now ready for larger commercial steps, which would not have been possible without support.
Interventions that belong in this area include, for example, the availability of land for cooperative farming and collaborative farming, technology and skills development in food production and land-based aquaculture, digital development and resource sharing for small businesses, diversification of production, local sales strategies and other things that can increase resilience.
Focus area 3
Experiences
The third focus area is designed to achieve Goal 3: World-class experiences. It is about contributing to activities that develop the potential of the Bohuslän destination for tourists as well as for local residents.

What does it mean? experiences?
There is currently a large range of world-class experiences, but this needs to be developed. The Bohuslän mindset needs to be defined and spread to create a holistic spirit of what Bohuslän is. Together we can highlight good examples that can become hallmarks of experiences in our region.
Efforts can include, for example, contributing to collaboration for accessible cultural and outdoor activities, more services, innovations and companies in the tourism industry, as well as contributing to genuine profiling and knowledge and skills development. This can be done through investments in the development of cultural activities, hiking trails, accessibility to nature, gastronomic development and accessibility of service and food, outdoor activities and boating.
These experiences can be designed year-round, thereby creating a range that involves locals as well as tourists. An expected consequence is that the opportunities for an increased number of year-round residents in our area are strengthened.
